LAT and implant reconstruction

LAT and implant reconstruction

Latissimus muscle flap, a pedicled flap from the back is a very useful flap for patients who have undergone or will be undergoing radiation. Radiation changes the characteristic of the chest tissue making it more hostile to breast implants. Patient who want implant-based reconstruction or those who simply don’t have enough other autologous tissue to transfer will need healthy Latissimus muscle to cover the breast implants. A Vast majority of the patients will not have problems using their Latissimus muscle for their breast reconstruction. (See Radiated patient recon with lat flap photos)
